Puppy Development

Jack-Russel-with-toy

for puppies younger than 6 months

Puppy Development is fundamentally different from adult obedience training.  It is so important to emphasize this difference! Sit, down, heel, come, and stay are not the tasks of puppyhood.  Puppies suffer when they’re asked to do adult obedience before they’re ready.

The foundation for a successful life and future obedience starts with play.  We focus on age-appropriate exercises designed to develop your puppy’s emotional self-control and strengthen your connection.

Unlike Adult Obedience, Puppy Development can be taken very slowly to stretch over the course of your puppy’s development from 8 or 10 weeks of age (as soon as you bring her home) to 22 weeks (a little over 5 months).  This gives you the opportunity to introduce exercises gradually and get feedback from us as your puppy grows and changes.

We cover the Puppy Foundations program in either 4 Private Lessons or a 2 week Board & Train that includes 2 handling sessions.
