We are Deb, Michael, and Leo Charlap.
We’re a family of dog trainers.
HISTORY |
Michael founded Prescott K9 Academy in 1991 with a psychology degree in Animal Learning and Motivation, and a Master Trainer Certificate from one of the few schools offering accredited master-level programs for professionals. Not satisfied with degrees and titles, Michael honed his craft over decades — studying the history, theory, and science of dogs and dog training — apprenticing with mentors — patiently applying his disciplined attention to each dog in his care.
The result of Michael’s effort is an effective, efficient, proven approach to evaluating and training dogs for companionship, disability assistance, and protection — and a system for passing that knowledge to other trainers and dog owners.
NOW |
This is the approach we use today. This is what Deb learned while apprenticing with Michael for nearly 15 years — and this is how we teach the Prescott K9 Academy method to our apprentices and clients every day.
Our son, Leo is learning, too. With a leash and squeaky toy in his hand, dog training gives him huge opportunities to experience and expand his empathy, patience, and responsibility.
